Mark D. Martin PLS started his career in Land Surveying in 1980. He spent the better part of his career in the private sector working for firms such as Christian-Roge & Associates, American Surveying and Kam Engineering. He was assigned to work on difficult and challenging assignments such as O’Hare and Midway Airports and the Argonne Laboratory. Mark learned to manage survey crews, estimate costs for bidding on jobs and evaluate equipment needs to get the job done. Mark is licensed in the State of Illinois and Wisconsin.
In 1989, Mark established his own business providing Land Surveying and layout services to a range of contractors, sub contractors, attorneys and private individuals. This experience taught Mark a lot about management and negotiating projects.

Mark went to work for Illinois Department of Transportation in the Land Acquisition department as a Land Surveyor II in June 2001. During his tenure at IDOT, Mark gained responsibility for the entire Land Acquisition Department for IDOT, District One. These responsibilities included the oversight of the entire process from plats to condemnation for District One. Mark gained the knowledge and experience necessary to facilitate land acquisition from beginning to end and make lettings possible.

Mark has developed a reputation for utilizing state of the art technologies to expedite the land acquisition and surveying processes. Mark was one of the first to use GPS as a tool for land surveying back in the 1980s. At IDOT, District 1, Mark implemented the design and use of the plats archive data base and project management database. In addition, Mark initiated the scanning of all closed parcel files to facilitate quick retrieval and safe storage of historical data. These innovative tools became necessary to maintain productivity as IDOT suffered from staff reductions.
